AppearanceTechnetiun is a silvery-grey metal that tarnishes slowly in moisture. It usually comes as a great powder.
Discovery1937 by C. Perrier and E.G. Segre In Palermo, Italy.
It was the first element to be produced artificially.

IsotopesNo isotope is naturally abundant. All are made artificially. 97Tc has a half-life of 2.6 million years: 98Tc has a half-life of 1.5 million years and 99Tc Has a half-life of 212000 years.
SourceThe metal is produced in tonne quantities from the fission products of uranium nuclear fuel.
Common usesTechnetium is a marvellous corrosion-inhibitor for steel, and can protect steel by the addition of very small amounts. However, as technetium is radioactive, this use is limited to close systems.
