Precipitation Reactions are used to produce insoluble salts: CuSO4(aq) + 2NaOH(aq) → Cu(OH)2(s) + Na2SO4(aq) They can also be used to test for cations and anions.For example, the test for sulfate ions using BaCl2(aq)Na2SO4(aq) + BaCl2(aq) → BaSO4(s) + 2KCl(aq) In a positive result a white precipitate is formed.
